Two African American Men Who Have Been Appointed to Distinguished Faculty Positions

Shawn Ginwright has been named professor of practice at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. He will begin his new role in the summer. Dr. Ginwright is currently a professor of education in the Africana studies department at San Francisco State University. His research examines the ways in which youth in urban communities navigate through the constraints of poverty and struggle to create equality and justice in their schools and communities. Dr. Ginwright is the author of several books including Hope and Healing in Urban Education: How Urban Activists and Teachers are Reclaiming Matters of the Heart (Routledge, 2015).

Dr. Ginwright holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in communication from San Diego State University. He earned a Ph.D. in education at the University of California, Berkeley.

Grant Warner will serve as the inaugural Bank of America Endowed Professor of Entrepreneurship and director of the Center for Black Entrepreneurship at Spelman College and Morehouse College in Atlanta, effective January 1. He was director of innovation and a professor at Howard University in Washington, D.C.

Dr. Warner received a bachelor’s degree from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. He holds a master’s degree from Pennsylvania State University and a Ph.D. from Columbia University. All his degrees are in mechanical engineering.
