Presbyterian College Has Expelled Four Students for Racist Behavior on Campus

Presbyterian College in Clinton, South Carolina, expelled four students and suspended another student for one year for an incident that included the racist and sexist harassment of the women’s lacrosse team from historically Black Howard University in Washington, D.C. The college also closed the chapter of the Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity on campus and said it would never again be allowed to be part of the college community due to the incident.

According to a statement from the college, a small group of students taunted the lacrosse players during their pre-game warm-up routine.

“We are profoundly sorry for what our guests from Howard University experienced that day. Our hearts are heavy for them and for women and people of color throughout the PC community, many of whom felt less safe because of the actions of a select few,”  said Matthew Vanderberg, president of Presbyterian College.

Presbyterian College enrolls about 1,300 students. African Americans make up 16 percent of the student body.
