New Administrative Appointments for Six African Americans in Higher Education

Germaine Gross has been appointed vice president for finance and chief financial officer at Grinnell College in Iowa, effective July 1. She has been serving as chief business officer for the School of Liberal Arts at Tulane University in New Orleans.

Gross holds a bachelor’s degree in management with an accounting concentration from Tulane University. She earned an MBA at the University of Texas at Austin.

James M. DuBose, Jr. is the new athletic director at Elizabeth City State University in North Carolina. He was the senior associate athletic director for development and administration at Winston-Salem State University in North Carolina.

DuBose graduated from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University with a bachelor’s degree in agricultural economics. He hols a master’s degree in sport management from Southern New Hampshire University.

Andre Perry was promoted to executive director of the Hancher Auditorium and the Office of Performing Arts and Engagement at the University of Iowa. He was director of arts, engagement, and inclusion and senior advisor to the executive officer of diversity, equity, and inclusion at the university. Perry previously served as executive director of The Englert Theatre in Iowa City.

Perry is a graduate of Princeton University in New Jersey, where he majored in English. He holds a master of fine arts degree in nonfiction writing from the University of Iowa.

Aisha Jackson was appointed vice chancellor for information technology at the University of California, Santa Cruz, effective August 1. She has been serving as assistant vice provost and assistant vice chancellor for academic technology and student success at the University of Colorado Boulder.

A native of Panama, Dr. Jackson is a graduate of Flagler College in St. Augustine, Florida, where she majored in elementary education. She holds a master’s degree in education from the University of Florida and a doctorate in education from the University of Colorado Denver.

Deacue Fields has been selected to serve as the next vice president for agriculture for the University of Arkansas System. He currently serves as dean of the Dale Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food and Life Sciences at the University of Arkansas.

Dr. Fields holds a bachelor’s degree from Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, a master’s degree from the University of Missouri, and a Ph.D. from Louisiana State University. All three degrees are in agricultural economics.

Warren Petty will serve as vice president and chief human resources officer at Howard University in Washington, D.C. He most recently served as the vice president of human resources at the Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, New Jersey.

Petty earned his bachelor’s degree in journalism from the Howard University School of Communications. He holds a master’s degree in communications from Wheaton College and is a doctoral candidate in the University of Southern California’s Organizational Change and Leadership Program.
