In Memoriam: Albert Odontoh Richardson, 1946-2021

Albert Richardson, a professor emeritus of computer and electrical engineering at California State University, Chico, died late last month. He was 75 years old.

A native of Assin-Fosu, Ghana, Dr. Richardson came to the United States under a scholarship program that brought him to Yale University. He went on to earn a master’s degree from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland and a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from Pennsylvania State University.

After completing his doctorate, Dr. Richardson spent five years in the corporate world working for Digital Equipment Corporation and Polaroid Corporation. In 1982, he began his academic career as a lecturer in the department of electrical engineering at the University of Benin in Benin City, Nigeria. He returned to the United States to teach at Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts, before joining the staff of the department of electrical engineering at California State University, Chico in 1989.

Dr. Richardson was a visiting professor at the University of Zacatecas in Mexico, North Dakota State University, and a was faculty fellow at the Johnson Space Center in Houston. He assumed emeritus status at California State University, Chico in 2012.
