Three African Americans Who Have Been Appointed to University Administrative Positions

Yulander Wells, Jr. has been named deputy athletic director for external operations and relations at Harvard University. He has been serving as senior associate athletic director for administration and development at the University of South Florida in Tampa.

A native of Chicago, Wells earned a bachelor of business administration-finance degree and a master of business administration-management degree from North Central College in Naperville, Illinois.

Enku Gelaye was promoted to senior vice president and dean of campus life at Emory University in Atlanta. Since August 2019, she has been serving as vice president. Earlier, she was vice chancellor of student affairs and campus life at the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

Gelaye holds a bachelor’s degree in print journalism from the University of Tennessee and a law degree from the University of Georgia.

On July 1, Wendell Williams will become the next associate chancellor of enrollment management at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. Williams most recently served as a special assistant to the president at Texas Southern University in Houston.

Williams holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a master’s degree in rehabilitation counseling from Arkansas State University.

The new administrative appointments are Katrece Boyd at North Carolina Central University, Anthony Jones at Loyola University New Orleans, Gerald Shields at Southeastern Missouri State University, Jordan Jones at the University of Washington, and Jasmine Buxton at West Chester University.
