Howard University’s Kehbuma Langmia Honored by the National Communication Association

Kehbuma Langmia, professor and chair of the department of strategic, legal and management communications at Howard University in Washington, D.C., is the 2020 recipient of the Orlando L. Taylor Distinguished Scholarship Award in Africana Communication, presented by the National Communication Association.

The award honors a scholar whose body of work demonstrates a sustained commitment to either or both the study of African American and the African Diaspora communication and culture. The award will be presented virtually on November 21 at the NCA 106th Annual Convention.

“This award has confirmed the urgent need for Black and Africana Communication scholars to continue the path of decolonizing our minds through theorizing the communication studies beyond the West,” says Professor Langmia.

Dr. Langmia joined the faculty at Howard University in 2013 after teaching at Bowie State University in Maryland. He is the editor of the book Black/Africana Communication Theory (Palgrave Macmillan, 2018).

Dr. Langmia holds a bachelor’s degree and two master’s degrees from Yaounde University in Cameroon. He earned a Ph.D. in mass communication and media studies from Howard Univerity.
