Two African American Woman Appointed to Dean Positions at Universities

Evelyn L. Ashley has been named dean of students at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. She will assume her new responsibilities on September 14. Most recently, she served as associate dean of students and director of student support, advocacy, and accountability at Southern Methodist University in Dallas.

Dr. Ashley earned a bachelor’s degree in exercise sports science from Hamline University in St. Paul, Minnesota. She holds a master’s degree in adult learning and development from Cleveland State University and a Ph.D. in higher education administration from Bowling Green State University in Ohio.

Henrietta Williams Pichon, an associate professor of educational leadership and administration, was appointed interim dean of the College of Education at New Mexico State University. She has been serving as associate dean.

Dr. Pichon holds a bachelor’s degree in English and a master’s degree in secondary English education from Louisiana Tech. She earned a Ph.D. in higher education administration at the University of New Orleans.
