HBCU Partners With Local Community Colleges to Establish Pipeline for Aviation Students

Historically Black Elizabeth City State University in North Carolina has partnered with three North Carolina community colleges to establish a pipeline program that will bring community college transfer students to ECSU’s signature aviation science program. The partnering community colleges are Guilford Community College, Lenoir Community College, and Sandhills Community College.

Elizabeth City State University is the only four-year university in North Carolina that offers a bachelor’s degree in aviation science. The university operates a 10-fleet airplane flight program. The university plans to start a bachelor’s degree program in unmanned aerial systems this coming fall. The three community colleges all offer aviation programs, but until now have not been able to offer a seamless transfer program for students to advance their pursuit of a bachelor’s degree in aviation at a public North Carolina university .

Under the new agreement, community college students who earn an associate’s degree in applied science can transfer to Elizabeth City State University to pursue a bachelor’s degree in aviation science. These students can minor in flight education, aviation management, air traffic control, or avionics.
