Student Shouted White Supremacist Views in Confrontation With Black Students at Columbia

A White sophomore at Columbia University in New York City was seen on video harassing a group of African American students outside the Butler Library on campus in the early morning hours. Many of the the Black students in the confrontation were women enrolled at Barnard College. See a student video of the incident below.

The video shows the student shouting “White people are the best thing that happened to the world. We built modern civilization.” The student then allegedly followed the group of Black students shouting racist and White supremacist comments.

In response, Barnard College issued a statement that read in part: “Our students’ safety and well-being is of the utmost concern to the College. Following the incident early Sunday morning on Columbia University’s campus in which a group of mostly Black students (many from Barnard) were verbally harassed by a Columbia student advocating racist beliefs, Barnard College has banned the student depicted in the video from our campus.”
