Five Black Scholars Taking on New Assignments

Maurice Dawson has been appointed director of the National Center of Academic Excellence for Cyber Security and assistant professor at Illinois Institute of Technology. Previously he was an assistant professor of information systems and cyber security at the University of Missouri St. Louis.

Dr. Dawson holds a bachelor’s degree in applied technology from Athens State University in Atlanta and a master’s degree in management in information systems security, a Ph.D. in computer science, and an M.B.A. from Colorado Technical University. He also holds a Ph.D. in cyber/electronic operations and warfare from London Metropolitan University.

Kya Mangrum has been named to a tenure-track faculty post in the English department at Westmont College in Santa Barbara, California. She was previously a faculty member at the University of Utah.

Dr. Mangrum received her bachelor’s degree in English from the University of California, Berkeley and her master’s degree and Ph.D. in English language and literature from the University of Michigan.

Michael H. Casson Jr. has been appointed interim dean of the College of Business at Delaware State University. He is an associate professor of economics and has been a College of Business faculty member since 2003.

Dr. Casson Jr. holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from Florida A&M University, a master’s degree in econometrics and mathematical economics from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and a Ph.D. in agriculture and resource economics, econometrics, mathematical economics, linear programming, public finance, and industrial organization from the University of Connecticut.

Gregory Battle has named chair of the department of mathematics at Livingstone College in Salisbury, North Carolina. He was the executive director of the Houston Louis Stocks Alliance for Minority Participation at Texas Southern University.

Dr. Battle received his bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Morehouse College where he graduated summa cum laude. He holds a Ph.D. in mathematics from Washington University in St. Louis.

Michelle L. Rockward has been appointed assistant to the chair and lecturer in the department of mathematics at Morgan State University in Baltimore. She was an assistant chair and assistant professor in the mathematics, computer science, and engineering department at Georgia State University’s Perimeter College.

Rockward earned her bachelor’s degree in mathematics from South Carolina State University and her master’s degree in applied mathematics from Clark Atlanta University.
