Five African Americans Who Have Been Appointed to New Administrative Posts in Higher Education

Van Williams was appointed vice chancellor for information technology at the University of California, Santa Cruz. He is the former senior director of enterprise operations and solutions and chief technology officer at the Stern School of Business of New York University.

Williams holds a bachelor’s degree in classical civilization and an MBA from New York University.

Nick Petty is the new director of the Graduation Coaching Office at Cleveland State University in Ohio. For the past six years, he has been the principal of Ginn Academy in Cleveland.

Perry is a graduate of Kent State University in Ohio, where he majored in business management. He earned a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction at Cleveland State University.

Arthur D. Vaughn was named associate vice president for business and finance at Morehouse College in Atlanta. He was executive director of business and finance at the Morehouse School of Medicine.

Dr. Vaughn received a bachelor’s degree in economics from Syracuse University in New York. He holds a master of public administration degree from Clark Atlanta University, a master’s degree in accounting from Southern Polytechnic State University, which later merged with Kennesaw State University, and a doctorate in higher education leadership from the University of Georgia.

Wanda Ford was appointed vice president for finance and administration and chief financial officer at Florida A&M University in Tallahassee. She joined the staff at the university in 2001 and since 2013 has been executive director of Title III programs.

Dr. Ford earned her bachelor’s degree in accounting from Albany State University in Georgia. She holds a master’s degree in organizational management and a doctor of management degree in organizational leadership from the University of Phoenix.

Gary Brown is the new vice chancellor for student affairs at Elizabeth City State University in North Carolina. He was interim vice chancellor for student affairs at North Carolina Central University in Durham. He joined the staff at North Carolina Central University in 2007.

Brown holds a bachelor’s degree in history and a master’s degree in education from North Carolina Central University. He earned a master of divinity degree at Shaw University in Raleigh, North Carolina, and is studying for a doctorate in leadership studies at North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro.
