Winston-Salem State University Partners With a Medical School in China

Winston-Salem State University, the historically Black educational institution in North Carolina, has signed a five-year cooperative agreement with the Hubei University of Chinese Medicine in Wuhan City. The university, in central China, enrolls about 18,000 students.

One part of the agreement calls for Hubei University to develop a free one or two-week training program in Chinese acupuncture or traditional Chinese medicine for WSSU undergraduates and graduate students. The agreement will also extend an existing partnership where Chinese students come to Winston-Salem to study nursing. This fall there are 11 Chinese nursing students on campus. The agreement also calls for expanding opportunities for students at Winston-Salem State University to study abroad in China.

Peggy Valentine, dean of the School of Health Sciences at Winston-Salem State University, stated that “this agreement will provide an opportunity for our faculty and students to embrace the whole concept of global learning and a global perspective.”
