The Next Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at New York University

Gene Andrew Jarrett was appointed the Seryl Kushner Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at New York University. Dr. Jarrett will assume his new duties on September 1.

Dr. Jarrett has been serving as associate dean of the faculty in the humanities division at Boston University in Massachusetts. There, he has also been a professor of English and a professor of African American studies. He has been on the faculty at Boston University since 2007.

Professor Jarrett is the author Representing the Race: A New Political History of African American Literature (New York University Press, 2011). An earlier book was Deans and Truants: Race and Realism in African American Literature (University of Pennsylvania Press, 2007).

A graduate of the New York City public schools, Dr. Jarrett holds a bachelor’s degree in English from Princeton University and a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in English from Brown University.
