Texas Southern University Partners With the Houston Community College System

tsulogoTexas Southern University, the historically Black educational institution in Houston, has entered into an agreement with the Houston Community College System. The system enrolls more than 56,000 students and African Americans make up 30 percent of the student body.

The agreement will facilitate a seamless transfer of students who earn associate’s degrees at the system’s community colleges to bachelor’s degree programs at Texas Southern University. Students who transfer before earning an associate’s degree can take advantage of “reverse transfer credits” that will allow them to apply courses taken at Texas Southern to an associate’s degree from the Houston Community College System.

dr-austin-laneAustin Lane, president of Texas Southern University, said that “we are excited to partner with HCCS and strengthen the bonds of higher education between the campuses. This agreement allows us to develop programs that will enhance the educational experience of students attending both Houston Community College and Texas Southern. We are going to work in an aggressive manner and ensure that interested students know how to get from the community college system into a direct track that ends in a bachelor’s degree.”
