Four African American Scholars Appointed to New Faculty Roles

knight2Christina Knight is a new assistant professor of visual studies at Haverford College in Pennsylvania. Previously, Dr. Knight was a Consortium for Faculty Diversity Postdoctoral Fellow at Bowdoin College in Maine. She is working on a book focusing on representations of the Middle Passage in contemporary American visual art and performance. Dr. Knight is a playwright and a founder of a dance theater company.

Dr. Knight is a graduate of Stanford University. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in African American studies from Harvard University.

j-finley2Jessyka Finley is an assistant professor of American studies at Middlebury College in Vermont. She has spent the past two academic years as a postdoctoral fellow at Middlebury as part of the Creating Connections Consortium.

Dr. Finley is a graduate of Hampshire College in Amherst, Massachusetts. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in African diaspora studies from the University of California, Berkeley.

souvenirRichard Souvenir was hired as an associate professor of computer and information science at Temple University in Philadelphia. He has been serving on the faculty at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.

Dr. Souvenir holds a bachelor’s degree in computer science and biology, a master’s degree and a doctorate in computer science, all from Washington University in St. Louis.

jamesmichaelMichael James was promoted to full professor of political science at Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania. He is chair of the political science department of the university. Dr. James is the author of Deliberative Democracy and the Plural Polity (University Press of Kansas, 2004).

Dr. James earned a Ph.D. at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina.
