University of Arkansas Contributes Items to the Umbra Digital Database

UmbraCircleThe special collections unit of the University of Arkansas Libraries has announced that it will contribute 2,392 items from its collections to the online archive Umbra: Search African American History.

The items from the University of Arkansas’ collections include newspapers published by Black Americans for Democracy and the university’s digital collection entitled Land of (Unequal) Opportunity: Documenting the Civil Rights Struggle in Arkansas.

Umbra was developed by the Givens Collection of African American Literature at the University of Minnesota Libraries with financial support from the Institute of Museum and Library Services and the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation. To date there are more than 400,000 searchable items in the Umbra archive contributed by more than 500 academic and research libraries.
