Northwestern University Launches New Scholarship Program for Transfer Students

northwesternNorthwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, has announced the establishment of the Chicago Star Scholars Program. Under the program, students who graduate from one of the City Colleges of Chicago who are admitted to Northwestern to complete their bachelor’s degree, will be eligible for up to $50,000 per year in scholarship money.

Morton Schapiro, president of Northwestern University, stated that “through this partnership and others, we hope to make it possible for more students from low- and middle-income families and who are first-generation college students to attend Northwestern.” By establishing the CCC Star Scholars Initiative, Northwestern hopes to attract outstanding City Colleges graduates who otherwise might not consider the University, President Schapiro said.

The City Colleges of Chicago serve more than 115,000 students annually at seven colleges and six satellite sites. All seven of the colleges have significant Black enrollments. At three of the seven colleges, African Americans make up more than 60 percent of the total enrollments.
