Five African American Men in New University Administrative Roles

CedricGathingsCedric Gathings was appointed vice president for student affairs at Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia. He has been serving as assistant vice president for multicultural affairs at Mississippi State University.

Gathings holds a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in education from Delta State University in Cleveland, Mississippi.

Aaron WhighamAaron Whigham was named community relations coordinator for the Pennsylvania State University Greater Allegheny campus in McKeesport. He was assistant finance director at the campus and also serves as senior pastor for the Christ Is All Innercity Ministries.

Whigman is a graduate of California University of Pennsylvania, where he majored in finance. He is currently working toward a master’s degree in organizational development through the World Campus of Pennsylvania State University.

mcclendonRodney P. McClendon has been named vice president for operations at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh. He has been a strategic partner for Forward Motion, a higher education consulting firm. Dr. McClendon is the former vice president for administration for Texas A&M University.

Dr. McClendon is a graduate of Morehouse College in Atlanta, where he majored in banking and finance. He earned a law degree at Emory University in Atlanta and a doctoral degree in agricultural leadership, education, and communication from Texas A&M University.

French_FraiserHerman Frazier was promoted to senior deputy director of athletics at Syracuse University in New York. He was deputy athletics director and chief of staff for the director of athletics. He is the former director of athletics for the University of Hawaii. He won a gold medal in the 4×400 relay at the 1976 Olympics.

Frazier is a graduate of Arizona State University, where he majored in political science.

DavenportWalter Davenport was named interim vice president for business and finance and chief financial officer at Saint Augustine’s University in Raleigh, North Carolina. A certified public accountant, he has practiced accounting for 45 years.

Davenport is a 1970 graduate of Morehouse College in Atlanta.
