Chief Diversity Officer at the University of Wisconsin Responds to a Racial Incident

wisconsin-bucky-badger-logo_654498An African American student at the University of Wisconsin found a racist note that had been slid under her dormitory room door. The note read, “You fuck w/Bucky, you fuck with us!! Fuck you nigger bitch.” The note apparently is referring to a protest, in which the African American student was involved, that featured a picture of the university mascot – Bucky the Badger – in a Ku Klux Klan outfit.

Sims_Patrick_hs14_5906In response to the incident, Patrick Sims, vice provost and chief diversity officer at the university, posted an emotional eight-minute video on YouTube in which he stated, “Enough is enough. This needs to stop. It needs to stop now!”

Professor Sims was named chief diversity officer at the University of Wisconsin in 2015 after serving in the position on an interim basis since 2013. He is a professor of theatre at the university. Professor Sims is a graduate of Yale University where he majored in psychology and theatre studies. He holds a master of fine arts degree in theatre from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
