Journalism Schools at Jackson State and Ole Miss Enter Into a Partnership

Jackson State University, the historically Black educational institution in Mississippi, has entered into an agreement with the Meek School of Journalism and New Media at the University of Mississippi. Under the partnership the journalism schools at the two universities will exchange faculty members, cooperate on research projects, and have students from both journalism schools participate in annual media conferences at each university.

J-school-Partnership-Pix-300x300Elayne Anthony, professor and dean of the School of Journalism and Media Studies at Jackson State University, stated that “this is a historic partnership that will propel both institutions into the media digital world. I am very pleased that we have the opportunity to work together to make our collective students ready for the media of the 21st century.”

Dr. Anthony is a graduate of Jackson State University and holds a Ph.D. from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale. Before entering the academic world, Dr. Anthony was the first African American woman news anchor of WJTV, the CBS affiliate in Jackson.

Meyers, president of Jackson State University, added that “this partnership will assist students at both schools with writing projects, digital packages, international programs, and faculty exchanges. This is the first time in the history of both schools that we have had this type of collaboration.”
