New Administrative Jobs in Higher Education for Three African Americans

Lance Kennedy-PhillipsLance C. Kennedy-Phillips was named vice provost for planning and assessment at Pennsylvania State University, effective October 19. He has been serving as associate vice provost for institutional research at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Earlier, he was the executive director of the Center for the Study of Student Life at Ohio State University.

Dr. Kennedy-Phillips is a graduate of Eastern Illinois University, where he majored in sociology. He holds a master’s degree and a doctorate in higher education administration from the University of Nebraska.

Margarett-Herder-HillMargarett Herder-Hill is the new director of the Writing Center at Saint Augustine’s University in Raleigh, North Carolina. She has held similar posts at other historically Black colleges and universities.

Herder-Hill is a graduate of Winston-Salem State University in North Carolina, where she majored in English. She holds a master’s degree in English and African American literature from North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro.

P.Brumfield_resizedPerry W. Brumfield was appointed director of operations for the School of Agriculture, Research, Extension, and Applied Sciences at Alcorn State University in Mississippi.

Brumfield is a graduate of Alcorn State University. He holds a master’s degree in agriculture and extension education from Mississippi State University.

In Memoriam: William Hamilton Harris, 1944-2024

Dr. Harris had a long career in higher education leadership, serving as interim or permanent president of five historically Black institutions: Paine College, Texas Southern University, Alabama State University, Fort Valley State University, and Texas College.
