Oral History Project on Richmond’s Historic Fulton District Is Now Available Online

Virginia Commonwealth University has debuted a website containing an oral history project relating to historic Fulton neighborhood of the city. The predominantly Black Fulton district in the East End of the city was razed during the 1970s as part of the city’s urban renewal project.

The oral history project includes interviews with 32 individuals who lived in the Fulton district. The interviewees are teachers, activists, clergy, and community leaders who grew up in the predominantly Fulton community in the 1930s through 1950s. These interviews are available online as part of the Historic Fulton Oral History Project.
