Racial Slur Written on a Birthday Cake at the University of Maryland

umd_logoMembers of the Delta Gamma sorority at the University of Maryland presented a birthday cake to a young White women who was celebrating her 21st birthday. Written on the cake’s stand was the phrase, “Suck a nigga’s dick.”

Photographs of the cake were posted on Instagram and subsequently were removed. Before the image was removed, the photograph received 77 “likes.”

A statement posted on the sorority’s Facebook page said, “We have become aware of an unacceptable Instagram post by a member of our chapter. The volunteers and staff are working with our chapter at the University of Maryland at this time to hold this member accountable.”
