In Memorian: Haskell S. Bingham, 1930-2014

binghamHaskell S. Bingham, a longtime college administrator, died late last month at the Southside Regional Medical Center in Petersburg, Virginia. He was 84 years old.

Dr. Bingham traced his roots to a Virginia slave in 1703. He also was a descendant of the slave Gabriel, who was executed in 1800 for planning a slave rebellion in Richmond.

Dr. Bingham was a graduate of Jackson State University in Mississippi and held graduate degrees from the University of Denver and Vanderbilt University. He served as dean of admissions and records at Jackson State University, assistant to the president at St. Paul’s College in Virginia, and as provost and vice president for academic affairs at Virginia State University.
