Five African Americans in New Administrative Roles in Higher Education

BeverlySharon Beverly was named assistant vice president for student affairs and director of athletics and recreation at The College of New Jersey in Ewing. Since July 2004, Dr. Beverly has been the director of athletics and physical education at Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, New York. She will begin her new job on March 1.

Dr. Beverly is a graduate of Queens College of the City University of New York. She played professional basketball before returning to school to earn a master’s degree at Queens College and a doctorate in higher education leadership from Capella University.

DiPasalegneJoslyn DiPasalegne was appointed director of events and special programs in the Division of Institutional Advancement at South Carolina State University in Orangeburg. She is a former development officer and events coordinator for the Chicago Theological Seminary.

DiPasalegne is a graduate of the National College of Education in Chicago. She is working on a master’s degree in administration from Central Michigan University.

Chief_August_WashingtonAugust Washington was promoted to associate vice chancellor at Vanderbilt University. He has serving as chief of police at the university and will continue in that role. He has been with Vanderbilt since 2009. Previously, he served as chief of police at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville.

Washington, a native of New Orleans, is a graduate of the University of Louisiana, Lafayette, and earned his master’s degree in criminal justice from Grambling State University in Louisiana.

GainesBlake Gaines was named director of bands at Mississippi Valley State University. He was director of bands and since 1990 has served as a member of the music department faculty at Morehouse College in Atlanta.

Gaines is a graduate of Jackson State University in Mississippi. He holds a master’s degree in music from the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond.

Taylor-AaronAaron N. Taylor, an assistant professor of law at the Saint Louis University School of Law was appointed director of the Law School Survey of Student Engagement.

Dr. Taylor is a graduate of North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro. He holds a law degree from Howard University and an educational doctorate from Vanderbilt University.

The new administrative appointments are Katrece Boyd at North Carolina Central University, Anthony Jones at Loyola University New Orleans, Gerald Shields at Southeastern Missouri State University, Jordan Jones at the University of Washington, and Jasmine Buxton at West Chester University.
