Texas Tech Scholar Named Teacher of the Year in Spanish and Portuguese

Pratt-2013-thumbComfort Pratt, professor of bilingual education and diversity studies in the College of Education at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, was named the Outstanding Teacher of the Year at the college and university level by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese. The award was presented at the organization’s annual meeting in San Antonio.

Dr. Pratt holds a bachelor’s degree in French and Spanish from the University of Ghana. She earned a postgraduate diploma in translation from Universidad Complutense in Madrid, Spain. Professor Pratt holds a master’s degree in Spanish from Texas A&M University, and a Ph.D. in Romance linguistics from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. She joined the faculty of Texas Tech in 2004.

  1. Congratulations on your achievement. I am a 1972 graduate from the Masters’ program in the Industrial Engineering School. I correspond periodically with Dr. Smith, who is still teaching in the I.E. school. At the time I was there, I estimate there were only about 20 black students on campus. Being on active duty in the Air Force at the time, I did not get to do a lot of socializing with students on campus. I am sure your accomplishments can be a beacon of light to guide their development.
