Anita Allen Appointed Vice Provost for Faculty at the University of Pennsylvania

anita_allenAnita L. Allen, the Henry R. Silverman Professor of Law and a professor of philosophy at the University of Pennsylvania, was appointed vice provost for faculty at the university.  University of Pennsylvania Provost Vincent Price stated, “Anita Allen brings an extraordinary range of experience to this critically important role. She is a distinguished scholar of law and ethics, a seasoned administrator, a vibrant writer and public speaker and a longtime champion of equity and access.”

Allen, an international expert in privacy law and contemporary ethics, is the author of seven books and more than 100 academic articles. Among her books are Unpopular Privacy: Why Must We Hide? (Oxford University Press, 2011) and The New Ethics: A Guided Tour of the Twenty-First Century Moral Landscape (Hyperion, 2004).

Professor Allen joined the faculty at the University of Pennsylvania in 1998. Previously, she taught at the Georgetown University Law Center from 1987 to 1998. She is a graduate of the New College of Florida in Sarasota and the Harvard Law School. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in philosophy from the University of Michigan.
