Three African Americans in New Administrative Roles in Higher Education

pettisDeloris Pettis is the new vice president for enterprise risk management at Northeastern University in Boston. She was a risk and audit services consultant for Barone and Associates, a firm with clients mostly in higher education and the nonprofit sector. She previously worked at Harvard University for 13 years in a number of senior positions.

Pettis is a graduate of the University at Buffalo, part of the State University of New York system. She holds an MBA from Tulane University in New Orleans.

Rodney Irvin, Human Resources.Rodney Irvin was named director of employee relations in the Office of Equity and Access at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. He has been interim director since January. He joined the staff at Virginia Tech in 2011 as an employee relations consultant.

Irvin is a graduate of Florida State University, where he double majored in communications and English.

SullivanSamuel Sullivan was appointed interim provost and vice president of academic affairs at Paine College in Augusta, Georgia. Dr. Sullivan retired in 2011 from his post as vice president of academic affairs at Augusta State University.

Dr. Sullivan is a graduate of North Carolina Central University in Durham. He holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in physics from Howard University in Washington, D.C.
