uabStudents at the University of Alabama at Birmingham are participating in an oral history project to record for prosperity the stories of the city’s residents who participated in the historical civil rights movement in the early 1960s. The goal of StoryCorps Griot Initiative is “to ensure that the voices, experiences and life stories of African Americans will be preserved and presented with dignity.”

The initiative includes interviews with foot soldiers in the civil rights movement, politicians, judges, musicians and poets.

  1. Please get in touch with Juanita Jones Abernathy….if you have not done so already. She lives in Atlanta. She is a wonderful story teller and certainly has plenty of stories to tell.

    • As a resident in Snellville, GA. (20 miles from Atlanta) I volunteer to contact Adelaide Solomon-Jordan and gather her information. My doctoral dissertation used oral histories as the foundational source of my research, so I am familiar with the process. Contact me at the e-mail address submitted or call (770) 708-8116.
