Florida A&M University Professor Is on the Cutting Edge of HIV Research

+Ken+Redda+smKinfe Ken Redda, professor of medicinal chemistry in the College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences at Florida A&M University, has received a U.S. patent for the development of therapeutic agents for the treatment of HIV. Professor Redda, and his research team, have developed synthetic falvonoid derivatives that are designed to target a specific enzyme relating to HIV.

Dr. Redda, who also is serving as interim vice president of research at Florida A&M, is a graduate of Haile Selassie University in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. He holds a Ph.D. in medicinal chemistry from the University of Alberta in Canada. He is the author of the book, Cocaine, Marijuana, Designer Drugs: Chemistry, Pharmacology, and Behavior (CRC Press).
