Larry Rivers Leaving Presidency of Fort Valley State University

Larry Rivers, president of Fort Valley State University in Georgia, has announced that he will step down at the end of the academic year in June. He will have served as the university’s eighth president for seven years. Dr. Rivers is the former dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Florida A&M University.

A native of Pennsylvania, Dr. Rivers is a graduate of Fort Valley State University. He earned a master’s degree at Villanova University. He holds a doctor of arts degree from Carnegie Mellon University and a Ph.D. in history from the University of London.

Dr. Rivers is the author of the recently released book, Rebels and Runaways: Slave Resistance in Nineteenth-Century Florida (University of Illinois Press).
