The Makerere University Business School was founded in 1997 as a constituent college of Makerere University in Kampala, Uganda. Now the business school is preparing to become independent. In the 2012-13 academic cycle, the business school will admit students and grant its own degrees. Business school officials believe that independence will help the school raise funds from corporations and foundations. In addition, the school plans to adapt is curriculum to meet the demands of the marketplace without have to go through the red tape at the larger and more academically diverse Makerere University.
