Elizabeth City State University Honors Alumni With the Naming of a Lecture Hall

Matthew Lewis, a 1964 graduate of Elizabeth City State university, has made a $250,000 contribution to his alma mater to endow a scholarship to honor his late wife Geraldine Wright Lewis, who graduated from the university in 1965. The scholarship will be awarded to a student with a grade point average of at least 2.5. The first recipient will be a major in the English department. Thereafter, very fourth year, the recipient will be an English department major. In other years, recipients of the scholarship can be a major in any discipline.

In honor of the scholarship, the university has established the Matthew and Geraldine Wright Lewis Lecture Hall in the university’s education and psychology complex.

Matthew Lewis is a retired executive for Verizon Inc. He is president of the university alumni chapter in Virginia Beach. Geraldine Wright Lewis taught in the Virginia public schools for 32 years.
