Thomas Calhoun Elected Leader of the Association of Black Sociologists

Thomas C. Calhoun, professor of sociology and interim dean of the College of Liberal Arts at Jackson State University in Mississippi, was named president-elect of the Association of Black Sociologists at the group’s 42nd annual conference in Denver. Professor Calhoun, who came to Jackson State in 2007, previously taught at Southern Illinois University, the University of Nebraska, and Ohio University. His research is focused on deviance, qualitative research methods, and race and ethnic relations.

Dr. Calhoun is a graduate of Texas Wesleyan College. He earned a master’s degree at Texas Tech University and a Ph.D. in sociology from the University of Kentucky.
