Adrienne C. Nelson has been appointed by Governor Kate Brown to a seat on the Oregon Supreme Court. She is the first African American to serve on an appellate court in the state of Oregon.
Daniel O. Bernstine was president of the Law School Admission Council. Earlier in his career, he served for 10 years as president of Portland State University in Oregon.
The appointees are Michael A. Freeman at Coppin State University, Felita Y. Singleton at Portland State University, Henry Wade Johnson at Benedict College, Marcus Cox at Xavier University of Louisiana, Paul Baker at North Carolina Central University, and Roland N. Bullard Jr. at Dillard University in New Orleans.
A study by researchers at the University of Arizona and Portland State University found that African Americans on average had to wait 32 percent longer than Whites before drivers would yield to them in crosswalks.
