Margaret I. Kanipes was named dean of the new Honors College at North Carolina A&T State University and Leah Tolbert Lyons was appointed dean of the College of Liberal Arts at Middle Tennessee State University
Rodney Bennett, who has served as president of the University of Southern Mississippi since 2013, announced that he will step down from his post at the end of his contract in 2023. He is the first African American to serve as president of one of the state’s five predominantly White public universities.
Dr. James has been serving as interim dean since August 2017. He has also served as chair of the department of accounting and finance since 2010. Prior to teaching at North Carolina A&T, Dr. James served as a faculty member at Middle Tennessee State University.
The study examined personal foul data from 333 Division I women’s basketball teams that played every season from 2008 to 2017, 23 of which were from HBCUs. The top five most penalized teams were HBCUs, and eight out of the top fifteen teams were HBCUs.
The agreement will create a six-year pathway for selected high-ability students to attain a bachelor’s degree at Middle Tennessee State University and a medical degree at Meharry Medical College in Nashville.
The appointees are Na’ilah Nasir at the University of California, Berkeley, Newtona Johnson at Middle Tennessee State, Teshome Alemneh at Indiana University, Genyre Henry Boston at Florida A&M, Veronica Cohen at Mississippi Valley State, and Artika R. Tyner at the University of Saint Thomas.
