The six African Americans in new administrative posts are Patrice Moorer at the University of West Florida, Anton Goff at Prairie View A&M University in Texas, Joy Milfort at Howard Community College in Columbia, Maryland, Michael Ray Bradley, Jr. at Jarvis Christian University in Hawkins, Texas, Yolanda Pollard at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, and Jeffrey L. Clark at the University of Georgia.

In Memoriam: Leroy Sterling, 1939-2023

A native of Booneville, Texas, Sterling applied to Texas A&M University in the early 1960s but was denied admission. But in 1963 he and two other Black students were allowed to enroll in summer sessions. There, he earned credits that went toward his bachelor's degree at historically Black Texas Southern University.

Historically Black Jarvis Christian University Partners With Tyler Junior College

Historically Black Jarvis Christian University in Hawkins, Texas, has entered into an agreement with Tyler Junior College that will allow for seamless transition into bachelor's degree programs at the university for Tyler Junior College graduates. Tyler Junior College enrolls just under 12,000 students. Blacks make up 16 percent of the student body.

Glenell M. Lee-Pruitt Will Be the Thirteenth President of Jarvis Christian University in Texas

Since August 2012, Dr. Lee-Pruiit has served as provost and vice president for academic affairs at the university. Previously, she served at Mississippi Valley State University as dean of University College and was a tenured professor in the department of social work.

Lester Newman Is Stepping Down as President of Jarvis Christian University in June

During his tenure, Dr. Newman has improved the educational institution's financial position, increased enrollments, and restored athletic programs. He added bachelor's degree programs and presided over the transition from a college to a university with the addition of two new master’s degrees in business and criminal justice.
