At some colleges and universities, a hiring freeze has been enacted due to the pandemic. But with the world’s new focus on racism and social justice, the hiring of diversity and inclusion officers at colleges and universities remains at a brisk pace.
Grant Hayes has been serving as dean of the College of Education at the university since 2015. Recently, Provost Ron Mitchelson was named interim chancellor and Dr. Hayes has stepped in to serve in Dr. Mitchelson’s role until a new chancellor is named.
Jennings was the personal “manservant” for James Madison on his estate in Virginia and also in Washington, D.C. After Madison’s death, Jennings secured his freedom and worked in the U.S. Pension Office.

Pamela D. Anthony, vice president for student affairs at Southern Methodist University in Dallas. From 2012 to 2016, she was dean of students at Iowa State University.
The honorees are Adebayo A. Ogundipe, an assistant professor of engineering at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia, and Harvey L. White, professor in the School of Public Policy and Administration at the University of Delaware.
The appointees are Nigel Edwards at Florida A&M, Monica Terrell Leach at North Carolina Central, Yvonne Harris at James Madison, Bethany Pace at Towson, Robert Sellers at the University of Michigan, and Claudette McFadden at Bethune-Cookman.
