University of Virginia Honors Its First African American Doctoral Graduate

In 1953, Walter N. Ridley earned a doctorate from the Curry School of Education at the University of Virginia. Dr. Ridley holds the distinction of being the first African American to earn a doctoral degree from a historically white university in the South.

In Memoriam: Thomas E.H. Conway, 1949-2020

Dr. Conway had a 45-year career with the University of North Carolina System. He was named interim chancellor of Elizabeth City State University in 2016 and the position was made permanent in 2017. Dr. Conway retired at the end of the 2017-18 academic year.

In Memoriam: Floyd L. Robinson

Floyd L. Robinson was the former band director, professor, and administrator at Elizabeth City State University in North Carolina. Upon his retirement in 2001, the university renamed its fine arts auditorium in his honor.

Two Historically Black Universities Partner to Provide Pathway Program for Pharmacy Students

Through this agreement, participating students will begin their studies in pharmaceutical sciences at Elizabeth City State University. After completing three years of courses, students will then transfer to the University of Maryland Eastern Shore where they will finish their bachelor's of science in pharmaceutical sciences.
