Gena Flynn is the new director of the Center for Black Studies at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb. She was director of academic support at North Central College in Naperville, Illinois. From 2007 to 2014, Dr. Flynn served on the staff at Columbia College in Chicago.

Maria Eliza Hamilton Abegunde will be first student to be awarded a Ph.D. in African Diaspora studies at Indiana University. After receiving her degree, she will serve as a summer scholar at the National Endowment for the Humanities.
Currently, Dr. Pope-Davis is professor of psychology and vice president and associate provost at the University of Notre Dame in Indiana. He has served on the Notre Dame faculty for 13 years and has been associate provost since 2007.
The new program will provide stipends to 50 undergraduate students to help them prepare for graduate school and careers in the academic world.
