Federal Lawsuit Calls for “Parity Through Equity” at Cheyney University
Historically Black Cheyney University was founded in 1837 and is now part of the 14-campus Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education. A lawsuit calls for major enhancements so that Cheyney can compete with other predominantly White institutions in the system.
Frank Pogue to Lead Cheyney University of Pennsylvania
From 2010 to June of this year, Dr. Pogue was president of Grambling State University in Louisiana. Earlier in his career, he served for 11 years as president of Edinboro University of Pennsylvania. He will become interim president of Cheyney University on November 3.
In Memoriam: Jeffrey A. Smith, 1970-2014
Dr. Smith, vice president for student affairs and enrollment management at Cheyney University in Pennsylvania, had been at his new job for only three weeks before his death. Previously, he was a vice president at Shaw University in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Cheyney University Opens Its New $23 Million Science Center
The 40,000-square-foot structure houses chemistry, biology, physics, and computer laboratories, seminar and lecture rooms, faculty offices, a planetarium, and an external greenhouse. It's the first new academic building on campus in 30 years.

Michelle R. Howard-Vital, the 11th president of Cheyney University of Pennsylvania, has announced she will retire on July 31. Phyllis Worthy Dawkins, provost and vice president for academic affairs, has been named acting president.
Cheyney University Signs Agreement With a University in Rwanda
The agreement calls for the two universities to collaborate on an aquaculture project that will enhance fish and food production in Rwanda. In addition, students in Rwanda will be able to enroll in a Cheyney online master of public administration degree program.

The agreement calls for student and faculty exchanges between the two educational institutions. The exchanges will focus on programs in aquaculture and public administration.

Phyllis Worthy Dawkins Named Provost at Cheyney University of Pennsylvania
Dr. Dawkins was provost, senior vice president for academic affairs, and professor of education at Dillard University in New Orleans. Earlier she held several positions at Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, North Carolina.

He was the former dean of the Graduate School of Social Science at Fordham University and was the oldest living alumnus of Cheyney University in Pennsylvania.
