Read a feature article from Issue No. 50 (Winter 2005/2006):

Black Student College Graduation Rates Remain Low, But Modest Progress Begins to Show --- Nationwide, the black student graduation rate remains at a dismally low 42 percent. But the rate has improved by three percentage points over the past two years. More encouraging is the fact that over the past seven years the black student graduation rate has improved at almost all of the nation's highest-ranked universities.

Applicants to Selective Colleges Show Increasing Reluctance to Disclose Their Race --- An increasing number of applicants to the highest-ranking colleges and universities are declining to disclose their race. Now some colleges are reporting that they do not know the race of 25 percent or more of their students. We note that if the nondisclosure trend continues, it will become more difficult to track the progress blacks are making in higher education.
