Program Coordinator for Academic Success Programs
The MIT Office of Minority Education (OME) seeks an individual to coordinate and assist with academic success programs for undergraduate students and coordinate various programs and initiatives, with a primary focus on underrepresented minority students (African American/Black, Native American/Pacific Islander, and Latinx/Hispanic).
The mission of the OME is to promote academic excellence, build strong communities, and develop professional mindsets among students of underrepresented minority groups, with the ultimate goal of developing global leaders in the academy, industry, and society.
Will act as an integral part of the OME team whose over-arching goals are to facilitate the transition for students at the high school-college, college-graduate school, and post-graduate career interfaces; serve as an information base and resource for underrepresented minority students on opportunities for academic pursuits during the undergraduate years; provide access for students to successful graduate students, alumni, faculty, industry, and other resources at MIT and beyond; and provide a supportive social, emotional, and cultural environment for underrepresented minority students at MIT. Will report to the staff associate III for academic success.
Required Qualifications:
- B.S./B.A. degree, preferably in a math/science field, educational counseling, or a related area
- At least one year of professional work experience in higher education
- Excellent administrative, organizational, interpersonal, and oral and written communication skills
- Experience with management and implementation of event logistics
- Ability to multitask; detail-orientation
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (specifically MS Excel), database software (i.e., FileMaker Pro), Adobe -Acrobat, and the internet
Preferred Qualifications:
- Website management experience
- Ability to speak and write Spanish fluently
