Miami University’s Communications and Marketing department has been charged with building and maintaining the university’s brand on a local, regional, and national stage. This dynamic and award-winning team is comprised of over 60 marketing and communications professionals and is looking to hire a Director of Communications and Marketing.
A leader among the University Communications and Marketing team, the Director for Marketing and Communications is responsible for developing and implementing integrated and comprehensive marketing communications plans for the College of Engineering and Computing (CEC) that are designed to help CEC reach its enrollment and reputational goals.
The incumbent will work closely with the Dean of CEC, and serve as a liaison between the Office of University Communications and Marketing (UCM) and CEC, and reports to the Senior Director of Academic Marketing and Communications.
This position is approved for remote hybrid work: three days on campus, two days remote. Remote work is not a right; it is a work arrangement that can be modified or revoked by Miami University at any time for any reason.
Duties/Physical Demands:
- Lead and implement integrated, comprehensive communication and marketing strategies for student recruitment and reputation building for CEC. – 70%
- Develop marketing and communications plans designed to drive CEC enrollment growth by working with UCM’s Enrollment Marketing Communications team and Enrollment Management.
- Create and execute plans to raise CEC’s public profile using media relations, marketing and creative services, web and social media communication, targeted print and electronic communication, leadership communication, and other activities.
- Work with the Storytelling team to stimulate media interest in CEC through press releases, media request responses, and targeted media contacts.
- Work with the Marketing team to develop strategies for comprehensive marketing campaigns.
- Ensure communication industry best practices are followed by monitoring campus communication for internal/external response and/or legal concerns.
- Work across the university to advance university-wide communication, marketing, branding, and enrollment management strategies. – 25%
- Represent CEC through participation in regular meetings of university-wide communicators, and other relevant meetings (remotely or in person).
- Collaborate with university-wide colleagues.
- Other duties as assigned – 5%
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communication, or related field; at least three (3) years of experience;
OR - Associate’s degree in Marketing, Communication, or related field; at least five (5) years of experience;
OR - At least seven (7) years of experience
Desired Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism or related field.
- Experience in public relations, marketing or communications at the director level.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Experience developing marketing or communications campaigns.
- Experience working in highly collaborative environments requiring interpersonal communication competence, initiative, active listening, and emotional intelligence.
- Demonstrated understanding of the higher education environment.
- Experience with multicultural marketing and communications.
- Demonstrated understanding of the value of storytelling.
