The Senior Endpoint Engineer contributes as part of a skilled team which designs and maintains the central management architecture and applications; builds configuration packages, policies, and scripts; and provides testing, validation, analysis and reporting for central management of desktop, mobile, and other managed devices. These responsibilities are key to providing consistency, efficiency, and a positive support and user experience for all of the Brown community. As a senior member of the Endpoint Engineering team, this person will have a high degree of responsibility for the use and management of Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, Android, ChromeOS and other endpoint devices across the University such Zoom/Crestron and classroom-based audiovisual equipment, printers/MFDs, and IoT devices.

This position also contributes greatly to the acquisition and distribution of operating systems and software/applications for the Brown community using a variety of distribution methods, and partners with University IT staff to provide guidance, support and collaborative changes to address community needs, and ensure effective design and utilization of endpoint management techniques to meet University policies and provide a customer-centric user experience.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • 5+ years providing desktop computing support working in a complex environment.
  • Experience supporting many thousands of users, communicating broadly to customers, and support of a diverse customer base.
  • One or more MCP, MCSE or MCSA, or Jamf, ACHDS certifications preferred.
  • Expert knowledge of macOS, Windows, iOS, and Android operating systems.
  • Knowledge of integrating and publishing OIT services to Linux endpoints, and basic knowledge of Linux configuration management technologies for managing simple user desktop settings and Linux-based managed devices at Brown.
  • Expert knowledge of software used at Brown (Office, computational software, Adobe applications, etc.).
  • Expert knowledge supporting endpoint hardware from a variety of vendors; proven ability to problem-solve, understand and troubleshoot complex technical issues and recommend technology solutions.
  • Expert knowledge of electronic software distribution and configuration tools such as SCCM, Jamf, Puppet, HP Web JetAdmin, etc.
  • Expert knowledge of script programming, in scripting tools such as Powershell, Python, and/or shell, preferred.
  • Strong computing, analytical, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Project planning and project management skills.
  • Excellent customer service and collaboration skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communications.
  • Excellent organizational skills; attention to details.
  • Ability to multitask is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Possess a willingness and ability to support a diverse and inclusive environment.
