Job Description:
The Research Assistant will be responsible for the analysis of gene functional by metrics that include molecular biology, immunolabeling, a variety of microscopy including confocal, stereo, and electron microscopy. The candidate will be responsible for helping maintain lab management tasks on a daily basis. The Research Assistant will work closely with senior staff to carry out additional experimental protocols as well as provide technical assistance, and perform experiments according to established laboratory protocols.
This is a fixed term position with a current end date of 06/30/2026 which may be extended based upon available
funding.
Job Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Required: Bachelor degree in biology, biochemistry, genetics, zoology or related field
- Undergraduate research experience with previous experience working in a laboratory setting
- Previous experience with marine organisms
- Previous experience with microscopy, especially fluorescence and confocal microscopy
- Ability to gain new skill sets in imaging including electron microscopy
- Relevant coursework and basic knowledge of laboratory approaches and techniques in the areas of
- Molecular, Cell Biology, Biochemistry and Development
- Strong organization and computer skills with preferably some experience using Excel, and laboratory data programs
