Brown University — Research Assistant

Job Description:

The Research Assistant will assist with conducting experiments that examine the molecular mechanisms epilepsy using mouse genetic models. This position will characterize the role of transcription factors in epilepsy by examining synapse formation and maintenance. This position will help with the animal husbandry of the lines used in these experiments, genotyping them, as well as performing the immunohistological characterization. This involves microscopy and image quantification.

Other duties will include supply ordering, maintaining laboratory equipment, and organization of research materials. The Research Assistant will work closely with senior staff to carry out experiments as well as provide technical assistance, and assist with experiments according to established laboratory protocols.

This is a fixed term position with a current end date of 05/31/2024 which may be extended based upon available funding.

Job Qualifications

Education and Experience (Grade 7)
Required:

  • Bachelor degree in biology, biochemistry, genetics or related field.
  • Relevant coursework and basic knowledge of laboratory approaches and techniques in the areas of Neuroscience.
  • Or, equivalent combination of education and experience.

Education and Experience (Grade 8)
Required:

  • Bachelor degree in biology, biochemistry, genetics or related field.
  • 1-2 years’ experience related research experience required.
  • Relevant coursework and basic knowledge of laboratory approaches and techniques in the areas of Neuroscience.
  • Or, equivalent combination of education and experience.
