Position Purpose

Under guidance of more senior engineers, the Facilities Engineer provides a range of engineering services within a broadly defined engineering discipline such as mechanical, electrical, structural, building automation, and utilities in support of campus wide physical plant construction, repair, and facilities planning programs.

The Facilities Engineer supports the senior engineers with the planning, organizing, coordinating, monitoring, and support of all Facilities Operations mechanical, electrical, plumbing (MEP) fire protection and alarm systems, and other building components and systems. The Facilities Engineer also provides support to facilities management (FM) operations staff; the planning, design & construction (PD&C) staff, as well as outside engineering consultants and project teams on projects specific to the areas of engineering.

Job Qualifications and Competencies

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
  • 3 – 5 years of related experience utilizing engineering principles and practices of facilities engineering services
  • Engineer In Training (EIT) certificate is preferred
  • Possess a working knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems and components, fire alarm, sprinkler, elevator, plumbing, pipefitting, BMS controls, and HVAC and controls technology
  • A developing understanding of relevant federal and state laws, regulations, and operating guidelines
  • Experience in the creation and control of design standards
  • Ability to identify and implement creative solutions which will impact the effectiveness of the operations team and its objectives
  • Knowledge of equipment and system inspection and the application of appropriate investigation techniques
  • Provide technical leadership to engineering projects of limited complexity and scope
  • Demonstrate use of good judgment and small team leadership
  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal, analytical, written and verbal communication, and organizational skills
  • Ability to develop and evaluate policies and procedures
  • Ability to prepare and analyze limited technical reports
  • Possess a willingness and ability to support and promote a diverse and inclusive campus community.
  • AutoCAD experience preferred

Additional physical demands and working conditions:

  • May be required to support operations on campus during emergency situations.
  • May be required to work outside of normal working hours in support of major campus utility outages.
  • This position is classified as onsite
