Position Summary Information

Summary
This is a full-time non-tenure track faculty position with primary curricular and teaching responsibilities within the College of Medicine (COM) in the Department of Anatomy and Neurobiology. The position requires understanding and oversight of contemporary curriculum delivery, content development, evaluation and performance outcomes with primary teaching responsibilities in gross anatomy and embryology.

TEACHING: You will be expected to make a significant contribution to the educational programs, eventually including education leadership in the role of course director.. Evaluating the success of your teaching contributions may be based on student achievement, student evaluations, course/module director evaluations, peer and chair evaluations. Positive contributions to the teaching and learning environment through curriculum committee participation, curriculum leadership roles, and program development may provide avenues for achieving excellence in the category of teaching. Ongoing success in teaching activities is essential to maintaining your faculty appointment. Up to [10%] of the overall effort may be dedicated to teaching in the College of Graduate Studies (COGS). The Department Chair, in collaboration with the Senior Associate Dean of Medical Education (SADME) in the COM, will establish teaching assignments and contact hours, which may be modified as necessary to support the COM curricular needs. Each college can review your teaching performance and provide a formal annual evaluation to your Department Chair for inclusion in your annual review.

RESEARCH & SCHOLARLY ACTIVITY: Some participation in research activities is desirable. As a teaching intensive faculty member, scholarship in teaching and learning is strongly encouraged. Research, scholarly pursuits, and service responsibilities will be evaluated by your Department Chair and may be adjusted during the annual evaluation and performance plan process.

Principal Functional Responsibilities

1) TEACHING & SERVICE: Participate in medical and graduate student education based on areas of expertise, contributing to direct teaching needs and to education leadership. Contribute to the following: · Deliver basic medical science content using innovative and effective techniques to engage medical students and enhance learning, e.g., “flip” the classroom sessions, actively learning modalities including peer instruction, team-based learning, engaged laboratory methods, and problem-based learning, and development of modules using multimedia. · Link course content to established learning objectives · Participate in activities that assure content is horizontally (within the course and between courses in the same semester) and vertically (across semesters and years) integrated. Collaborate with clinical faculty to ensure course content appropriately emphasizes the content relevant to professional practice · Support and actively participate in the mission of the department, College of Medicine and University by serving on department, College, and University committees as deemed appropriate. Provide service to the profession · Department specific teaching and service contributions include teaching in anatomy and embryology and other anatomical sciences. · Engagement in service activities in the Department, Colleges, and/or University is expected. Evaluating the success of service obligations will be based on level of participation and engagement in support of related activities.

2) RESEARCH & SCHOLARLY PURSUITS: Participate in scholarly activities as appropriate. · Publish papers in biomedical and/or educational subjects. Explore extramural funding opportunities, submit proposals and conduct collaborative research projects. · Explore and acquire extramural funding and productivity. · Serve on research related service committees

Qualifications
Education/Degrees: Must possess a terminal degree in a relevant field or specialty. Board certification preferred if candidate is a clinician.
Experience: Minimum of three years of experience in undergraduate, graduate, and/or medical student teaching.
