Job Description:
Brown University Athletics is currently seeking candidates for the Head Coach of Volleyball. Located in Providence, Rhode Island, and a member of the Ivy League, our intercollegiate athletics program consists of 34 varsity teams with approximately 1,000 athletes who participate within the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA-D1).
The Head Coach of Volleyball is responsible for leading, organizing and developing the varsity women’s volleyball program in support of the mission and core values of Brown Athletics and Recreation. This position is responsible for recruiting and retaining top prospective student-athletes, mentoring student-athletes, and developing and executing the program’s vision. The successful candidate will represent Brown University, the division of athletics & recreation, and the volleyball program in a positive manner to various internal and external constituencies including students, parents, faculty, staff, alumni, fans, and community stakeholders.
Job duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Coaching and teaching of student-athletes.
- Training and supervision of assistant coaches.
- Recruiting and retaining top-caliber student-Athletes.
- Design a competitive schedule that maximizes student-athlete development and performance.
- Ensure program wide compliance with NCAA, and Ivy League regulations, including maintaining knowledge about rule changes, applications and interpretations.
- Oversee the administration of team budget and monitor expenditures and prepare budget recommendations.
- Represent Brown University through multimedia commitments and other media appearances.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree required.
- Minimum of five (5) years coaching and recruiting experience required, preferably at the collegiate level.
- Competitive volleyball experience at the collegiate level, preferred.
- Knowledge of volleyball skills and training and demonstrated ability to teach strategy and technique in the sport of Volleyball.

All division employees are required to demonstrate exemplary ethical conduct and conformance to NCAA rules and regulations; the duties of the position are to be performed in compliance with all NCAA and Ivy League rules and regulations; and any rules violations on behalf of themselves or any knowledge of violations within the division are to be reported to the appropriate parties. Employees in coaching positions are required to pass the NCAA Coaches Certification Test, maintain current AED/CPR & First Aid certification (certification is available at no cost through the Division), and attend all required divisional and/or NCAA training/education programs.
